The Dance Teacher’s Glossary provides suggestions for when you might introduce a selection of dance words to students, so that over time they may build a broad dance language with which to describe movement and use in their rehearsals.  If your students should move into GCSE and A level, they should already have built a good vocabulary through using this system and won’t feel daunted by the language they are expected to use at examination level. It’s a nice gradual process!

This is also a mighty handy piece of kit to use when preparing for an inspection or for when you need to show evidence that you are bringing in your keywords. And if the students need to revise – just photocopy the appropriate page [we don’t mind!] and it’s all there for them.

The Glossary is unique in that it also gives suggestions for working examples of many of the words within professional dance works. We do not intend that you go and buy all of the works we suggest, but if you are looking for some new masterworks to show students, then this is a good place to start. We have intentionally chosen works that are easy to get hold of, and that you might already have in your dance library. Many of them are past and present GCSE works and so it is likely that you may have them to hand.
