ArtsPool and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company are delighted to introduce the first resource specifically written for the new GCSE Dance specification, due for first teaching in September 2009.
Faultline was originally inspired by Gautam Malkhani’s 2006 novel Londonstani and explores the themes of Youth Culture; Gender Stereotypes; Gang Identity; Urban & City Life and the Street Scene.
This wonderful piece is 30 minutes long, and blends gestures and footwork from Bharata Natyam with the martial arts forms of Kalari and Capoeira, as well as contemporary dance, pedestrian vocabulary and influences from street dance in its ‘attitude’. A fast paced, highly physical piece making use of contact work, film and live vocal work throughout, this 2007 work is an excellent choice for one of your prescribed works for GCSE.
